General Rules



1. General Conduct


  • All users must behave respectfully towards library staff and other users. Loud talking, disruptive behaviour, and inappropriate language are prohibited.
  • Eating and drinking in the library are generally prohibited to maintain a clean environment. Bottled water may be allowed in certain areas.
  • Personal items such as bags and helmets must be kept in locker area. KMC is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Anything of value should not be left unattended in the KMC. The KMC does not take responsibility for the loss of any items.
  • Users must not move furniture or alter the setup of study areas. KMC spaces should be used responsibly and returned to their original state.
  • The library is a quiet zone. Noise should be kept to a minimum to ensure a conducive environment for studying and reading.
  • Playing mobile games and watching movies are strictly prohibited.
  • Mobile phones must be on silent mode, and calls should be taken outside the KMC area.

2. KMC Access

  • Only students and staffs are permitted to use the KMC facilities. Visitors may be allowed as per KMC membership policies.
  • Users must adhere to the KMC’s operational hours. Extended hours may be announced for special events or during exams.

3. Borrowing and Returning Book(s)

  • Users must present a valid student matric card or staff ID to borrow materials. Only students or staff registered at UNITAR Main Campus, Kelana Jaya are allowed to borrow books. UNITAR staff and students at Regional Centers (RC) should borrow or request books from their respective libraries.
  • Borrowing periods for books and other materials vary by category. Users should check specific due dates.
  • Items may be renewed unless there is a hold on them by another user.
  • Failure to return materials on time will incur a fine. Fines must be paid before additional books can be borrowed.
  • Borrowers are responsible for returning items in good condition. In case of damage or loss, the user will be required to replace the item and pay a processing fee. A processing fee of RM30.00 will be charged of every loss item including the items price and fines.

4. Use of Library Materials

  • Users are responsible for the materials they check out and should not mark or damage them. Highlighting and writing in books are prohibited.
  • Materials that marked with ‘Ref’ must be used within the KMC and cannot be checked out.
  • Computers are available for academic purposes. Users must not engage in illegal or inappropriate activities online.

5. Usage of Discussion Rooms

  • Discussion Rooms can be used for group work (minimum of 3 users and maximum of 8 users).
  • Discussion Rooms should maintain a moderate noise level to avoid disturbing others.
  • The use of discussion rooms is purposely for academic discussion only.

6. Respecting Intellectual Property

  • Users must adhere to copyright laws when using library materials. Unauthorized reproduction of copyrighted materials is prohibited.

7. Penalties for Misconduct

  • Users who violate KMC rules may face consequences such as fines, suspension of KMC privileges, or even disciplinary action depending on the severity of the infraction.
  • KMC staff, Student Affairs Department (STAD) staff and security guard have the authority to enforce these rules, and names will be handed to STAD for disciplinary action.
